As the clock struck midnight on a Sunday evening, Mark revved the engine of his boat and set off towards the open sea. "It's a game," he explained to me. "The first one out of the harbor has the best chance of catching the most shrimp, and that's what it's all about - the success of catching shrimp. The more shrimp we catch, the more money we'll make."
But there was a catch - it was strictly forbidden to set sail before midnight. So, as they navigated through the harbor and out into the dark waters beyond, Mark and his crew knew that they were taking a risk. But the allure of the succulent, lucrative shrimp was too great to resist.
As we pushed forward into the night, the only thing on their minds was the thrill of the hunt and the promise of a bountiful catch. They were determined to come home with their nets full, no matter what challenges lay ahead. So, with the salty sea spray in their faces and the wind in their sails, they set off on their adventure, chasing the dream of a successful shrimp catch.

This is just one of the many stories you can find in my Smith Journal. I've tried to recreate not only the design and language, but also the photography style of the real Australian Smith Journal in my magazine. It appeals to me with its interesting and sometimes complex stories told in a casual, friendly style.
Inspired by the original, I've sought out stories that are not only enjoyable to read, but also to watch. There is always a good story to be found, if you know where to look.
